For decades, the development of water-resistant zippers has largely followed one technical path: improve the protective material applied to the zipper tape.
Manufacturers have adjusted coating formulations, film thickness, bonding methods, and surface durability. These improvements have supported the development of outdoor and performance apparel, but the basic zipper structure has remained largely unchanged.
There is still textile tape.
There is still a sewing line.
There is still a protective surface layer.

What Is NOTAPE™ SEAL?
SEAL stands for Structural Engineered Anti-Leak.
The name reflects the main technical principle behind the series: water-resistant performance is created through the zipper structure rather than through a coating applied to textile tape.
Conventional water-resistant zippers usually consist of zipper teeth, textile tape, sewing threads, garment fabric, and a water-resistant film or coating. Each layer performs a function, but each additional layer also introduces another interface that needs to be managed.
NOTAPE™ SEAL simplifies this relationship by integrating the zipper structure directly with the garment fabric.

No Tape: Removing the Absorbent Layer
Textile tape has traditionally been treated as an essential part of a zipper. It holds the zipper teeth and provides the area through which the zipper is sewn onto the garment.
However, in a water-resistant application, the tape can also become a structural limitation.

Textile materials may absorb moisture. Even when a film or coating protects the outer surface, cut edges, folded areas, worn surfaces, and connection points may still require careful control.
The No Tape structure removes this absorbent textile layer from the zipper assembly.
Instead of attaching the teeth to a separate zipper tape, NOTAPE™ SEAL engineers the zipper structure directly with the garment fabric. This reduces the number of material layers around the closure and creates a more integrated connection between the zipper and the garment panel.
For designers, the change is immediately visible. The closure line can appear cleaner and less like an accessory added on top of the garment.
For engineers, the more important change is structural: the zipper no longer relies on a coated textile tape as the main foundation of its water-resistant performance.
No Seam: Removing Conventional Needle Holes
A conventional zipper is normally installed by sewing its tape to the garment. This process is familiar and widely used, but every needle penetration creates a small opening in the material.
In outdoor and performance apparel, these sewing lines often need additional management. The factory may need to control stitch density, thread selection, seam construction, and supplementary sealing processes.
NOTAPE™ SEAL uses a No Seam approach at the zipper connection area.
By integrating the zipper structure directly with the garment fabric, it removes the conventional sewing line used to secure zipper tape. This means the water-resistant closure does not depend on rows of needle holes along both sides of the zipper.
The absence of conventional zipper-tape sewing can also support a more continuous visual surface, which is increasingly relevant for minimalist outdoor jackets, technical sportswear, cycling apparel, skin jackets, sun-protective clothing, hardshell jackets, and ski apparel.
No Coating: Water Resistance Through Structure
The third defining feature is No Coating.
Conventional water-resistant zippers commonly rely on a polyurethane-based film, laminated layer, or similar surface treatment. These materials can provide effective initial water resistance, but they remain exposed to repeated folding, abrasion, washing, temperature changes, and everyday wear.
Over time, a coated surface may crease, become scratched, separate, or gradually lose part of its original appearance and protective performance.
NOTAPE™ SEAL does not depend on this type of surface coating.
Through precision attachment of the zipper teeth directly with the garment fabric, the system creates a physical barrier along the closure line. Water-resistant performance comes from the engineered relationship between the zipper components and the fabric rather than from a film covering the zipper tape.
This makes NOTAPE™ SEAL a Water-resistant zipper without coating.
It is important to distinguish this concept from simply removing a coating from a conventional zipper. Without structural redesign, removing the coating would also remove much of the intended protection.

It removes components that have traditionally been accepted as necessary:
